AI stirs strong feelings. Some people embrace it eagerly, and some dread it. Many more are still figuring out where they stand. We are also actively discerning how to use it in the work God has entrusted to us.

First, we believe in God’s providence and trust the wisdom of the Church, which has guided humanity through every revolution brought by technological advancements, including now in the AI age.

Inspired by Pope Leo’s Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, we aim to use these new tools at the service of people, so they can flourish and encounter the God who created them and longs for their hearts. We choose to use AI with confidence and hope where it genuinely helps the mission of Christ and his Church, and we set it aside wherever it would diminish the work or the dignity of people we serve and love.

We are first and foremost a collective of creatives on mission. Storytelling and creative work are gifts from God, the first Creator, who has invited us to create with Him. We don’t want to squander or outsource this gift. We love to create!

AI can process, predict, and imitate. It does these things remarkably (sometimes astonishingly) well. But sometimes it sucks! We don’t pretend it can replace the human experience and the creativity God has given us. As Pope Francis and Pope Leo have reminded us, AI has never been present to listen to someone share their story. It has never kept a promise, felt wonder, or given its heart to anything. That’s why we believe the ideas, the craft, and the judgment behind everything we make belong to people: the writers, designers, illustrators, animators, filmmakers, and developers of our Collective.

We use AI the way a good crew uses good tools. Here are some tasks where we are leveraging AI for work, always keeping human agency and creativity at the center.

• Research, background reading, and first-pass summaries
• Polishing and refining our ideas, plans, and proposals
• Transcription, captions, and translations
• Admin work—the paperwork and busywork that we do to keep our studio running
• Production logistics: organizing footage, budgets, and files
• Exploration: rough drafts, outlines, and reference boards that humans then rethink and remake
• Code assistance and quality checks on our web work

• The heart of the writing. We use AI to polish our words and make sure the ideas and the story come through as clearly as possible. The thinking is always ours, and we stand behind every word we deliver

Human agency and judgment on everything.

Nothing leaves our studio without substantive human review and approval. AI can contribute to our work, but it cannot assume our responsibility for what we make, how we make it, or whom it affects. If we discover a material error or misleading use of AI, we will tell you and work promptly to correct it.

Your materials stay protected.

We use your materials only for the work you have entrusted to us. We do not put confidential, personal, or otherwise sensitive material into an AI system unless its use is appropriate, protected, and agreed with you.

We never use AI to replace human faces or voices.

We won’t use AI to simulate a real person’s voice or likeness. We will not use AI to alter an interview or personal story in a way that changes what someone meant. Human dignity matters more than convenience, novelty, or production speed.

We verify what we publish.

We are responsible for checking material facts, quotations, sources, and translations before publication. We respect copyright, licensing, and the work of other creators.

We don’t claim to have this all figured out. Technology is changing constantly. But we’re not watching from the sidelines either. Pope Leo XIV put it this way:

“Let us not be afraid to get our hands dirty on the ‘construction site’ of our time... placing God at the forefront of our actions and the human person at the center of our choices.”
